British aristocrat Lord Ivar Mountbatten has announced that he will be marrying his partner James Coyle. Mountbatten, 55, is not the most well-known royal figure, but his story is significant, as he is a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, making his the first ever gay wedding in the extended royal family.

Don’t expect the ceremony to be the same sort of blowout as Harry and Meghan’s wedding, though. Quite the opposite, in fact, as it will be a close-knit affair at a private chapel at Mountbatten’s country estate in Devon, England.

Accompanying the happy couple will be Mountbatten’s ex-wife Penelope Thompson, and their three children Ella, Alix and Luli, aged 22, 20 and 15. Mountbatten and Thompson were married from 1994 to 2011, with the former publicly coming out as gay in 2016.
Thompson has remained supportive of her ex-husband since their divorce, so much so that she will be the one giving him away during the ceremony. (It was their daughters’ idea.)
Thompson has also gotten along well Coyle ever since meeting him. Mountbatten characterized ther friendship to the Daily Mail: “We really are a funny threesome.”
The ceremony promises to be nontraditional in other ways as well, which apparently means having cheese instead of cake.
