Giancarlo Granda, the 29-year-old former Miami pool boy whose affair with the wife of Jerry Falwell Jr led Falwell to resign as president of Liberty University, spoke out in an interview with The Washington Post on Friday. He said he had a six-year affair with Becki Falwell, which began when he was working as a pool boy in Miami in 2012. He disclosed years of text messages and emails to support his story.

Granda also claims that Jerry knew about the affair and even watched the two have sex for the first time, which contradicts Jerry’s vehement denial of ever knowing about and participating in the act.

“I was groomed, and before I knew it, I was trapped,” Granda said.

Granda added that the affair ruined his relationships and ultimately led him to consider suicide. After the 2018 Buzzfeed article that exposed his strange business dealings with the Falwells, Granda threatened suicide to Becki, writing, “‘My life is absolutely ruined. When they find my lifeless body hanging in the woods, please make sure Logan is returned to my family. Goodbye.” (Logan is Granda’s pet dog.)

Becki replied saying, “Stay off social media. It’s all left-wing nut jobs. That’s from Jerry.”

Other evidence Granda provided includes a screenshot of a Facetime conversation, with Jerry looking on as Becki talked to Granda while topless and sipping on some wine. He also provided text messages documenting an affectionate relationship between himself and Becki over the years, as well as many photographs and screenshots that were not published by The Washington Post.

Over the summer of 2020, business disputes led to Granda demanding a buyout and the Falwell’s refusing. In response, Granda wrote, “Since you’re okay with ruining my life, I am going to take the kamikaze route. It really is a shame because I wanted to reach a peaceful resolution and just move on with our lives but if conflict is what you want, then so be it.” He attached a photo of himself in front of a microphone.

“You should by now understand that I will not be extorted. I have always treated you fairly and been restrained in response to your threats because I did not wish to ruin your life,” Jerry replied. “Going forward stop contacting me and my family.”

Granda went public with his claims after Falwell received backlash for posting an Instagram photo with his pants unzipped holding what seemed to be an alcoholic drink. After Reuters published an article disclosing the affair, Becki wrote to Granda, “I hope you’re happy and that you were paid very well. Jerry just resigned.”

The message came on Aug. 24 and marked that last communication between Granda and the Falwells.
