Taylor Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.

Directly after Harris finished her first debate with Donald Trump on Tuesday, Swift made her statement via an Instagram post caption accompanied by a photo of herself and her cat.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” Swift began and went on to urge her followers to do their research on the candidates and make conscious decisions based on their values as they are reflected in the political figures’ stances.”

Swift addressed the AI scandal in which Trump falsely claimed to have Swift’s support through fabricated images. “Recently, I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site,” she wrote. “It really conjured up my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift declared. She went on to say that Harris fights for causes that “need a warrior to champion them” and is “a steady-handed, gifted leader.”Swift posited, “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

She continued to praise Harris’s choice of running mate, Tim Walz, who has historically been a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, IVF, and reproductive rights.

Swift declared, “I’ve done my research and made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.” She reminded her followers to get registered and said she would post voting registration links and other resources on her story.

She signed the post off, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

Swift’s first endorsement of a presidential candidate was in 2020 when she posted a photo of herself with homemade Biden-Harris sugar cookies.

With 283 million followers, Swift’s endorsement will likely inspire many new voters’ decisions in this election. When Swift made an Instagram post encouraging her followers to register in September 2023, there were over 35,000 new sign-ups in the days after.
