It was announced this week that the iconic actor Sylvester Stallone would be joining the cast of the highly anticipated upcoming superhero movie The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn. The news was made by the director himself in a post on Instagram. It has not yet been revealed what role Stallone will be playing. However, fans are nonetheless excited to see the actor interact with the other cast members like Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Joel Kinnaman as the Colonel Rick Flag Jr. and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

It will be very interesting to see a legendary action star alongside other immensely talented actors. It has been rumored that Stallone’s character will be a voice role, though the size of that part has yet to be revealed. This is not the first time in which Stallone starred in a comic book movie directed by Gunn. The actor originally appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Stakar Ogord, the leader of the Ravager clan and Yondu Udonta’s (Michael Rooker) former superior and close friend. Stallone’s role in the film was small and seemed to have set up a spin-off with the character’s fellow Ravagers (Michelle Yeoh, Ving Rhames, Michael Rosenbaum and Miley Cyrus). However, no information has been given following the tease at the end of the movie.

Hopefully, Stallone can have a larger role in The Suicide Squad. Fans should not worry too much about Stallone being sidelined, as Gunn has a great respect for the actor. In his post on Instagram, Gunn stated, “Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception,” Gunn said. “Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.”

The Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 6, 2021. With Stallone now confirmed to be part of the film, fans can look forward to seeing his character interact with the infamous team of supervillains and anti-heroes.
