Sylvester Stallone Investigated By Los Angeles County Prosecutors For Sexual Assault Allegation

Add one more name to the list of male celebrities being accused of sexual harassment or assault: Sylvester Stallone.

Sylvester Stallone Investigated For Sexual Assault

On Wednesday, Los Angeles County prosecutors reportedly started investigating a sexual assault allegation made against the Oscar-nominated actor. According to the Los Angeles Times, “a special entertainment task force” in that county’s district attorney’s office is handling the case against 71-year-old Stallone, best known for his role in the Rocky boxing film franchise.

The incident reportedly took place in the 1990s, and no charges can be brought against Stallone under California law because the incident is past the statute of limitations that existed at that time, according to the Times.

Stallone recently visited the White House to attend the ceremony where President Donald Trump pardoned long-dead boxer Jack Johnson for breaking an age-old discrimination law. Stallone had reportedly called Trump to suggest the pardon.

The assault claim against Stallone was first reported to Santa Monica police in November, as the #MeToo movement was just gaining force after scores of women began revealing stories of sexual mistreatment at the hands of famous men including now-disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Martin Singer, Stallone’s lawyer, said the claims against his client were false.

“It is a false claim. It is a complete fabrication,” said Singer.

The attorney addd that Stallone did have a relationship with the woman who brought the charge — and who has not been named — in the 1980s and 1990s but that it was consensual.

“It’s not appropriate to try to ruin someone by doing this,” Singer stated.

California ended its statute of limitations on some sex crimes including rape and child molestation in 2016. However, the revised law reportedly only applies to felonies committed after January 1, 2017, “and offenses for which the statute of limitations had not expired by that date,” according to CNN.

Among the recent films Stallone has appeared in are 2015’s Creed, a sequel to the Rocky movies, and 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. For Creed, he won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for an Academy Award in that same category.
