A Christian organization called Faithful America has launched a petition that demands the impeachment of conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

The petition, which has already garnered over 7,400 signatures, cites a “corruption crisis” on the Supreme Court and calls on Congress to co-sponsor the articles of impeachment introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York).

Framed as a letter to members of Congress, the petition expresses deep concern over the “unreported gifts from Christian-nationalist activists” and the refusal of justices connected to the January 6 events to recuse themselves from related cases. It reads, “I urge you to co-sponsor newly introduced articles of impeachment against Justices Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito so that we can begin to restore integrity to the high court and usher in a time when justice for all truly does prevail in our nation.”

The allegations against Justice Thomas are wide-ranging and include a report that he accepted undisclosed gifts from his billionaire friend, Harlan Crow, and failed to recuse himself from cases in which his wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas. Ginni’s text messages with former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, which urged him to encourage the former president not to concede the 2020 election, have further fueled concerns about a potential conflict of interest.

Justice Alito, on the other hand, is accused of failing to disclose a luxury fishing trip funded by hedge fund manager Paul Singer and his refusal to recuse himself from cases that involved the attempted overturning of the 2020 election. The controversy around Alito has been amplified by the incidents that involve an upside-down American flag outside his home and the “Appeal to Heaven” flag flown at his vacation home in New Jersey.

The Faithful America petition is not the first of its kind. Two years ago, the progressive Move On group launched a petition that called for the impeachment of Justice Thomas over his failure to disclose gifts from Crow, which has now garnered over 1.3 million signatures.

Move On has also launched a petition that calls for Alito to be held accountable for his alleged gifts from Singer, which has garnered over 77,000 signatures, and a more recent petition from two months ago that calls for Alito to be held accountable for the upside-down flag incident, which has garnered over 149,000 signatures.
