The parents of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin have reached a settlement with Fiat Chrysler, after he was crushed and killed by his SUV in his driveway in 2016.
The actor, who was most known as his role of Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot, died due to injuries when his 2015 Grand Cherokee rolled backward in the steep driveway of his Los Angeles home, pinning the actor against a brick mailbox and his driveway gate.
His parents filed a wrongful death case against the company in August 2016, stating the gear changer was defective, which is what caused the SUV to move after he parked it. The lawsuit originally alleged negligence, product liability and breach of warranty. However the end terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.

That same year the company had recalled about 1.1 million vehicles across the world because of concerns that they could roll away after drivers parked the car.
After the settlement was decided the company put out a statement stating that they were “pleased that we’ve reached an amicable resolution in this matter. … We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss.”
The Yelchin family has not put out a public statement since the settlement has been made.

Following his death, his parents started the Anton Yelchin Foundation that was set up in his name to help young people that were facing career challenges in the arts due to illnesses or disabilities. According to Gary Dordick, the lawyer for Yelchin’s parents, the money would go towards the Anton Yelchin Foundation. The settlement money will also help fund a documentary about Yelchin’s life and acting career.
