‘Succession,’ ‘The Bear’ & ‘Beef’ Win Big At The 2023 Emmy Awards
The 2023 Emmy Awards finally took place on Monday night, with series like The Bear, Beef and Succession winning big.
The ceremony, hosted by Anthony Anderson and held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, was postponed for months due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes. Thus, to be considered for an award, a television show, limited series or made-for-TV film must have been released between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023.
The National Active Members of the Television Academy voted on the awards from August 18 to August 28, 2023.
Succession walked away with seven wins for its final season, including Best Drama and recognition for actors Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen. The show also received awards for Best Directing for a Drama Series for Mark Mylod and Best Writing for a Drama Series for Jesse Armstrong.
During its first year at the Emmys, The Bear walked away with six awards, including Best Comedy and recognition for stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Showrunner Christopher Storer won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
Other notable winners included Quinta Brunson for her role in Abbott Elementary and Jennifer Coolidge for her portrayal of Tanya McQuoid in The White Lotus. Beef also received five wins in the limited series categories.
The 2023 Emmys also awarded Elton John for his Disney+ variety show Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, making him the 19th person in history to receive an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
