Adult film actress Stormy Daniels testified on Tuesday in a Manhattan court and recounted salacious details of her alleged affair with Donald Trump.
Daniels, who spoke rapidly with animated gestures, described an encounter in which she spanked Trump with a rolled-up magazine with his face on the cover. The vivid description of the occasion in her testimony led to visible smirks from some jurors. It elicited a reported profanity from Trump, who mouthed his disapproval, ‘That’s bull—-,’ to his legal team.
Throughout Daniels’ testimony, Trump was visibly frustrated and shook his head in disagreement. Daniels claimed that Trump had reassured her not to worry about his wife, Melania, as they didn’t “even sleep in the same room.” This statement seemed to agitate the former president further, who exhibited signs of anger and was later cautioned by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan for his audible curse and head shakes, which could potentially influence the jury.
The judge also admonished prosecutors that the “degree of detail” was “unnecessary” when Daniels described the tiles on the floor of the hotel where she said she’d slept with Trump in 2006. However, he sided with the prosecutors that Daniels should be allowed to tell jurors about the one-night stand to establish credibility.
Trump’s lawyers objected when Daniels testified that she had “brief” sex with Trump in the “missionary position.” The statement drew an objection from Trump’s lawyers, which was sustained as the judge had ruled not to get into the specifics of the sexual activity.
Daniels also expressed concern that Trump did not use a condom.
Although Daniels occasionally glanced in Trump’s direction, there was no apparent eye contact between the two.
Daniels recounted their initial introduction in 2006 at a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, where they engaged in banter that eventually led to an invitation for dinner. They never dined together, but Daniels arrived at Trump’s luxurious hotel suite, where he was initially dressed in “silk or satin” pajamas like Hugh Hefner. At her request, Trump changed his clothes before he showed her some pictures, to which Daniels asked about his wife, Melania, who had recently married him.
Daniels alleged that was when she told him, “Someone should spank you.” When asked where she swatted him, Daniels replied, “Right on the butt.”
Daniels revealed that she did not disclose the sexual encounter to her then-boyfriend and former publicist due to feelings of shame and further claimed that Trump made sexual advances toward her the year after, with an invitation to the Miss America beauty pageant in Los Angeles. However, she declined with the false claim that she was on her period.
The former adult actress said she had received numerous death threats since coming forward with her story.
Trump’s lawyer, Susan Necheles, engaged in a combative cross-examination, which prompted Daniels to admit her disdain for Trump and her desire to hold him accountable. Necheles questioned Daniels about her tweet, which referred to Trump as an “orange turd,” to which Daniels responded that she commented in response to Trump’s derogatory remarks about her.
Trump’s lawyers had previously tried to block Daniels from testifying.
