Stormy Daniels‘ ex-attorney, Michael Avenatti, says he would testify on behalf of former President Donald Trump. Avenatti said he’s been in contact with Trump’s legal team.

Avenatti is currently imprisoned on a 19-year sentence for extortion, tax evasion, fraud, embezzlement and various other criminal charges. Avenatti, who represented Stormy Daniels in her lawsuits against Trump, was found guilty of a financial crime against his former client.

“I’d be more than happy to testify,” Avenatti told The New York Post. “I don’t know that I will be called to testify, but I have been in touch with Trump’s defense for the better part of the year.”

Avenatti’s new views on Trump are a significant turnaround from his previous position on Daniels’ legal team. In an op-ed for the New York Times in 2018, Avenatti called for Trump’s indictment. Now, the former attorney may oppose his former client on Trump’s side.

“There’s not question [the trial] is politically motivated because they’re concerned he may be reelected,” he said. “If the defendant was anyone other than Donald Trump, this case would not have been brought to prevent tens of millions of people from voting for him. I think it’s just flat out wrong and atrocious.”

Trump is on trial for the hush money case involving Daniels. Trump had paid Daniels to keep quiet about their alleged affair before Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. Avenatti became a known name in 2018 when he represented Daniels.

Avenatti was later charged with defrauding Daniels out of $300,000. He is currently serving a four-year sentence in the case.

Now, Avenatti has been critical of his former client, saying he “[wished he] would have never met Stormy Daniels.”

“I should’ve left her where I found her,” Avenatti said.

“Stormy Daniels is going to say whatever she believes is going to assist Stormy Daniels and putting more money in her pocket,” he added. “If Stormy Daniels’ lips are moving, she’s lying for money.”

Trump recently tried to block Daniels and Michael Cohen, his former lawyer, from testifying at the trial. A judge denied Trump and his legal team’s efforts.
