Steve Carell To Star In Netflix Comedy Based On Trump’s Space Force

Steve Carell is set to star in a new comedy series for Netflix based on President Donald Trump’s “space force” initiative.

Netflix broke the news on Wednesday through a tweet, “.@SteveCarell will star in a new workplace comedy series he co-created with #TheOffice’s Greg Daniels about the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services: the Space Force!” it wrote.

The show titled Space Force which the actor has co-created with long-time collaborator and The Office creator Greg Daniels will be a workplace comedy “centered around the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services,” according to the streaming service.

In a short teaser, Netflix linked the project to the 18 June announcement that Trump would be launching his space force “to defend satellites from attack” and “perform other space-related tasks.”

Space Force’s salary including co-creator and executive producer fees has reportedly hit an all-time high as it will most likely top the $1 million per episode paydays.

This project marks Carell’s second announced TV appearance on the streaming platform. Since wrapping up his seven-season run on NBC’s The Office, Carrell has starred in Beautiful Boy, Vice, and Welcome To Marwen. Recently, he has also been confirmed for Apple’s new untitled comedy series about the workings of a morning TV show in which he will play an anchor alongside Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

Space Force will become the latest big star project coming to Netflix and it will also become the latest space-themed series on the streaming platform joining Jason Katims-Matt Reeves drama Away and the Lost in Space revival.
