It was announced last fall that Star Trek would be returning to the small screen. After premiering on CBS, the sci-fi series reboot will stream on CBS ALL Access – becoming the first original series developed specifically for the streaming network. At Comic-Con, the series’ title was revealed and a teaser clip was shown for the series, which will make its debut in January 2017..

Showrunner Bryan Fuller appeared at Comic Con’s Star Trek 50th anniversary panel alongside original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, as well as Scott Bakula, Jeri Ryan and Michael Dorn. Speaking about Star Trek: Discovery, Fuller said, “Because it’s on CBS All Access, won’t miss anything. It’s all at your fingertips.”

“The new series has to remind audiences the message of Star Trek – continuing to push boundaries,” Fuller said later in the panel, adding of Discovery and the current state of the world, “We do have to celebrate a progression of our species because right now we need a little help.”

Star Trek Beyond, the latest in the rebooted Star Trek film franchise, is currently in theaters.
