Stacey Dash, the conservative star of Clueless, has announced a run for Congress in California.
She plans to fight Democratic Rep. Nanette Barragan for her seat in a Los Angeles district, where Democrats outnumber Republicans 61% to 10 %. Dash, 51, filled out the required federal paperwork on Monday declaring her intent to run as a Republican in the 44th Congressional District; she has not, however, submitted her paperwork with the L.A. County Registrar. Her campaign committee, called “Dash to DC,” has been established.

“In response to numerous calls for me to run for office, I am considering a run for Congress. Would love to know what my fans and friends think,” Dash tweeted out on Feb. 10 to test the waters.
Dash rose to fame in 1995 as a supporting actress in cult classic Clueless. She is now a conservative political commentator, and even wrote a book about the change called There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative.
Dash, who is described as “Bajan, African American and Mexican,” was once employed by Fox News as a contributor, but was suspended after claiming that President Barack Obama didn’t “give a s–t” about terrorism. She also called for an end to Black History Month. Dash left her position at the news network last year.
The 44th Congressional District will be a tough sell for Dash, as no Republican even made it to the general election in 2016. Barragan won a heated race against the favored state Sen. Isadore Hall to replace Rep. Janice Hahn. After receiving an endorsement from the Democratic Party, Barragan said she will “continue to work hard to maintain her widespread support” from her district.
