The highly anticipated sixth season of Dexter does not premiere on Showtime till October 2, but viewers are already learning that they can expect a slew of newcomers and a faith-centered plot line. A new promotional video released Thursday shows America's favorite serial killer, played by Michael C. Hall, confronting fresh faces and deep questions. The extended video goes behind the scenes and gets the actors' input about Dexter's new directions.

The major addition to the cast is Mos (he's dropped the Def), whose character Brother Sam starts off as a potential victim but becomes a rather unlikely ally in Dex's troubled quest for meaning in life. "Sounds like you're trying to get me to go to church," Dexter tells Sam in one clip. "So what? You afraid you gonna catch something?" Sam replies. Keeping with the religious theme, Colin Hanks plays Travis, a minion to the faith-based fanatics of Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos). It seems that the two are up to some crazy dealings (involving big snakes?), but it is not clear from the video exactly how they will become embroiled in Dexter's life.

Striking a sunny note, Aimee Garcia joins the cast as Angel's sister and Dexter's new nanny, Jamie Batista. Her air of good fortune suggest she might be Heaven-sent, but in Dexter's world devotion to positivity tends not to last long, so time will tell how how Batista holds up. Finally, Billy Brown turns up to give Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) a hard time with his no-nonsense detective Mike Anderson. But is there a touch of sexual tension in his interactions with Deb? We only catch a glimpse.
