‘SNL’ Recap: Michael Keaton Hosts With Musical Guest Carly Rae Jepsen

Michael Keaton hosted Saturday Night Live with musical guest Carley Rae Jepsen on Saturday, April 4.

NCAA Tournament Cold Open

SNL kicked off their Easter show with a sketch making fun of all the controversy surrounding how the NCAA treats their “student” athletes. The sketch featured cast member Kenan Thompson doing his signature Charles Barkley, claiming he “majored in volcanoes.”

Michael Keaton Monologue

Michael Keaton was joined by Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan for his surprisingly Birdman¬-free monologue. Killam and Moynihan stole the show as fanboys obsessed with Keaton’s classic roles in Batman and Beetlejuice, singing “Will you play Batman with us Michael Keaton?”

CNN Newsroom

Cecily Strong, Sasheer Zamata and Moynihan starred in a CNN spoof that tackled the Germanwings crash, the negotiations with Iran and the Indiana religious freedom law all while making fun at CNN’s ridiculous animated reenactments.

Prom Queen

Mike O’Brien returned to the SNL screen with this unnerving pre-recorded spoof of She’s All That. The twist: instead of a jock turning a nerd into Prom Queen, he is works his magic on the awkward math teacher!

Easter Hotline

Zamata shined in this sketch that reminded viewers to call their grandparents for the holidays.

Ad Agency

Keaton embraced the wacky in this sketch alongside Leslie Jones, Strong, Thompson and Beck Bennett. Keaton played a gross, outlandish boss of an ad agency who only cared about “big knockers” and cameramen laughing.

Church of Neurotology

SNL created a spot-on spoof of Scientology’s music video featured in the HBO documentary Going Clear. The faux recruitment music video from 1990 featured updates showing what the Neurotology Church members were up to now – many were missing or had left the church years ago, exposing the allegations made against the Church of Scientology by former members.

Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che

Weekend Update tackled this week’s biggest issues, such as the nuclear deal with Iran, while also including a segment with ‘Resident Young Person’ Pete Davidson on The Walking Dead finale and a funny television bit form grumpy critic Jebediah Atkinson. (Best Joke: “Mad Men? The most likable character in this show is cigarettes. Hey, AMC, if I wanted to know what life was like in the 1960s, I’d move to Indiana.”)

Smart House

Another weird sketch, “Smart House” starred Strong and Keaton as a married couple full of crazy ideas to make a ‘smart house.’

Easter Candy

Keaton closed the show with a special (and creepy) Easter message.

Carly Rae Jepsen Performs

Carly Rae Jepsen performed her new single, “I Really Like You” and debuted a new slow song called “All That.”

“All That”

Olivia Truffaut-Wong

Olivia Truffaut-Wong was born and raised in Berkeley, California, where she developed her love of all things entertainment. After moving to New York City to earn her degree in Film Studies, she stayed on the East Coast to follow her passion and become an entertainment writer. She lives on a diet of television, movies and food.
