Slender Man Update: Anissa Weier Sentenced To 25 Years In Mental Health Facility

One of the two Wisconsin girls who dressed as fictional horror character “Slender Man” and attempted to murder one of their classmates in 2014 has been sentenced.

SLENDER MAN NEWS: ANISSA WEIER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS

Anissa Weier, 16, was sentenced to 25 years in a mental health facility – the maximum punishment possible for her crime. She pleaded guilty back in August to being involved in an attempted second-degree homicide, but argued that she wasn’t responsible for her actions because she was mentally ill. The following month, the jury agreed with her argument.

Waukesha County judge Michael Bohren sentenced Weier to 25 years retroactive to the date of her crime, meaning she will be institutionalized until she is 37-years-old. Weier’s attorney argued that she shouldn’t be hospitalized past her 25th birthday, but their request was not met.

In 2014, Weier and Morgan Geyser lured their classmate Payton Leutner to a wooded area in Waukesha. Geyser then stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged her. The attempted victim was able to crawl out of the woods where a bicyclist found her. She survived, but is still recovering from her wounds. All three girls were 12-years-old at the time.

Leutner’s mother sent Judge Bohren a letter this week about the attack and her daughter’s progresses and struggles. “She will struggle with the events of that day and physical and emotional scars it left for the rest of her life,” the letter read.

Weier and Geyser explained to authorities that they felt they had to kill Leutner to become servants of Slender Man and to protect their own families from him. “I do hold myself accountable for this and that I will do whatever I have to do to make sure I don’t get any sort of delusion or whatever again,” Weier said before her sentencing. “I want everybody involved to know I deeply regret everything that happened that day. I know that nothing I say is going to make this right and nothing I say is going to fix what I broke.”

Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree homicide, but the jury also agreed that she isn’t criminally responsible and should not spend time in prison. She will be sentenced in February, and prosecutors are asking for at least 40 years in a mental hospital.
