Singer Andy Williams, 83, best known for his version of the Academy Award-winning song "Moon River" and "The Andy Williams Show," announced Saturday that he has bladder cancer, CNN reports.
Williams said he is undergoing treatment and plans to return to the stage in 2012. "You may have read or heard that I have bladder cancer. It's true and I'm currently undergoing treatment to deal with it," he told fans at a concert in Branson, Missouri. "But that is no longer a death sentence. People with cancer are getting through this thing," Williams said.
Williams got his start as a child in a quartet with his three older brothers. His big break came when he became a regular on Steve Allen's "Tonight" show and became a household name with the "The Andy Williams Show" in the '60s.
