New papa, Simon Cowell is finally opening up about his affair with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, who was married to his close friend when they started seeing each other and divorced during her pregnancy.

Simon Cowell Regrets Hurting Friend Andrew Silverman

In a revealing interview with The Mirror, Cowell admits that he isn’t proud of how his relationship with Silverman began, saying, “I regret that part.”

Cowell expressed that he had no intention of hurting his friend, and Silverman’s ex husband, Andrew Silverman.

“It is not something I am proud of or wanted to happen in terms of hurting anyone. It just happened. You have to deal with it and man up to it. You have to accept the responsibility and the criticism. All I can say is, my advice to you is if it happens to you, you just have to deal with it a day at a time and own up to your responsibilities,” Cowell explained.

Many were shocked when the news hit that the famous American Idol and X Factor judge was going to be a father, and that shock doubled when it was revealed that he had been carrying on an affair. And, for Cowell, the news that he was going to be a father introduced a whole other complication: an instant family life.

Simon Cowell Embraces Being A Family Man

Looking back, Cowell says he is somewhat grateful for the chaos brought on by his dramatic road to fatherhood, saying, “In a weird way I probably needed that, I really did.” Before he became a family man, Cowell says he was obsessed with controlling every aspect of his life and struggling with depression in 2013, something his new family life has helped him recover from.

“You are always looking for the next high from the show and then actually if you haven’t got anyone to share it with per se, or if you haven’t got a family around you, you can go a bit nuts,” Cowell said.

Cowell went from living in a bachelor pad to sharing a home with Silverman, two dogs and their young son, Eric, born Feb. 14, 2014, and says he could not be more pleased with the changes:

“My life has changed, but I am probably more focused on what I am doing now than I was a year ago. Maybe because it puts things in perspective having two people in my life who I am responsible for… Now the house is full of people, it has become a home rather than a house.”

Cowell continued to gush about his chaotic home environment and his new role as a father, saying, “Everyone said ‘it must be turning your life upside down’ but I love it. The dogs are mad and Lauren is not exactly the most quiet person in the world.”

When asked whether or not he and Silverman would be looking to add another bundle of joy to their family, Cowell remained coy, admitting, “I wouldn’t rule anything out. From here on in I am not predicting anything. The important thing this year is we have fun with what we are doing.”

Cowell also teased that the public would have to “wait and see” if a wedding might be in his future.
