Shayanna Jenkins, Aaron Hernandez’s Fiancée, Admits Getting Rid Of Mystery Box
Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancée of former New England Patriots standout and suspected murderer Aaron Hernandez, admitted that she had in fact removed a box from the basement of the house she shared with Hernandez the day following Odin Lloyd’s shooting death.
The box that Jenkins copped to removing from the house and that security cameras show her transporting in a bag to her vehicle, is believed to have been holding a weapon owned by Hernandez that ended Lloyd’s life. On Tuesday, before a grand jury, Jenkins didn’t deny disposing of the box at Hernandez’s request, but would not reveal where she dropped it, reported Fox Sports.
“She was asked what she did to the item that Mr. Hernandez instructed her to get rid of; she repeatedly told the grand jury that she couldn’t remember, she didn’t know, she’d thrown it in a dumpster, and she couldn’t tell anybody where it was,” said Assistant DA Patrick Bomberg, who argued that Jenkins should be jailed and made to post a $5,000 bail.
During the court appearance, Bomberg claimed that Hernandez phoned Jenkins at about 1 p.m. the day after Lloyd was shot dead and asked her to get the box out of the house. Over the next 20 minutes, Bomberg says Jenkins retrieved the box from the storage unit in the basement, put it in a garbage bag, covered it with baby clothes and got the keys to her sister’s car, which she used to transport the suspicious cargo.
Jenkins' attorney Janice Bassil believes that the prosuction has been overzealous in its attempts to have Jenkins jailed and forced to post bail. Furthermore, she maintains that her client truly does not remember all of the dialogue exchanged between her and Hernandez in the aftermath of Lloyd’s death, or the exact location she used to dispose of the box. Bassil also suggested at the hearing that Hernandez and Jenkins' relationship oftentimes operated under a “don’t ask don’t tell” policy.
At the hearing, Jenkins pled not guilty to a perjury charge. The judge denied the prosecution’s motion to put Jenkins behind bars. She will make her next hearing appearance on Nov. 6.
