‘Sharknado’ Star Ian Ziering Attacked By Biker Gang In Broad Daylight On New Year’s Eve

Ian Ziering, known for his role in the popular TV series Beverly Hills 90210, found himself caught in a daytime altercation that involved several motorcyclists on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve.

The incident was captured on video at approximately 3 p.m. near the renowned Hollywood and Highland intersection, situated along the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. The footage identified Ziering as the victim assaulted by a group of motorcyclists in helmets.

Ziering took to Instagram on Monday to address the assault.

“While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation,” Ziering wrote. “In an attempt to assess any damage, I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.”

The footage of the attack depicts Ziering quickly surrounded by up to four helmeted riders who unleashed punches and kicks before he managed to sprint across the street. One of the attackers even wielded a motorcycle helmet as a weapon and pursued Ziering onto the sidewalk, from where he eventually managed to break free.

Ziering continued, “I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace… This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior.”

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) media spokesperson Lt. Letisia Ruiz said: “The mini-motorcycle riders were driving recklessly and collided with the victim’s vehicle, which then led to an altercation.” By the time law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, “the bikers had already fled. As a result, the investigation is still ongoing,” Ruiz disclosed.

As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made by the police.

In a subsequent tabloid video, Ziering was seen comforting his visibly distraught 12-year-old daughter, Mia, after the incident.

Ziering concluded his Instagram post, “As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient,” Ziering said. “I have always been an advocate for standing up against intimidation and misconduct, and this incident reinforces my belief in the importance of personal and community safety.”

In 2016, Ziering exclusively told uInterview about being cast in the cult hit Sharknado. “I think the craziest thing was when I first saw the script, and I read the scene where I had to climb up a rope and there was a shark jumping out the water trying to bite me, and I looked at my wife and I said, ‘I can’t do this movie, it’ll be the end of my career,'” he recounted. “And my wife, with our daughter Mia in her arms and Penna still in her belly, she quickly reminded me that I needed to go to work, I needed to make my insurance quota.”

Looking back on Sharknado’s enormous success, Ziering confessed to it all being a little mind-boggling. “Sharknado is a global phenomenon, in 190 countries around the world… this is one of, if not the, most successful television movie in the history of television… It’s astonishing to me,” he told uInterview.
