Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty has been battling brain and breast cancer since her diagnosis in 2015.
She shared on a recent episode from her podcast Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty that she is grateful to be alive and “to spend time with the people that are by our sides through thick and thin, who don’t walk away, who love us unconditionally, and that have the same beliefs and morals and standards and people who have character.”
In November, Doherty announced that the disease had spread to her bones.
But she would not let that stop her from enjoying the holiday season. The star also stated that she had planned out all of her transfusions and medical work so that she would be well enough to celebrate by Christmas time and could make the most of the season.
Her mother, Rosa, who joined her on the podcast, said, “I’m just so thankful really to be here for it.”
Doherty also opened up about how the past year had been a particularly hard one for her.
She shared about her relationship struggles in addition to her health battles that included a brain tumor earlier this year and the spread of the breast cancer.
She claimed to be facing heartbreak as she filed for divorce from her former husband of 12 years, Kurt Iswarienko, who allegedly had an affair.
In the face of all of the personal struggles, the actress still finds a way to maintain a strong attitude of hope.
“But with all of that, I have found… I was actually saying this to myself the other night, ‘God I think I’m actually starting to live the happiest version of myself,’” she said.
