Sonic Forces’ impending launch draws near, ushering in both excitement and skepticism from fans of the longstanding mascot. SEGA has ramped up their promotion for the upcoming platformer, and this week’s big reveal was an unexpected one: Shadow the Hedgehog will star in his own DLC scenario.
Shadow’s story will serve as a prequel to the main game. Specifically, “Episode Shadow” will investigate “Shadow’s allegiance, the fate of Team Dark, and the origin of the mysterious villain, Infinite.” Given how Shadow’s fighting alongside Dr. Eggman and Infinite in the base game, it seems like a forgone conclusion that he’ll in some way be seduced by the darker side.
Our genetically engineered mammal will roam across three reworked stages from Modern Sonic’s lineup, evidentally sporting a remix of the “Supporting Me” theme from his debut, Sonic Adventure 2. Moreover, Shadow will also be playable in some of Modern Sonic’s stages. Notably, this will be Shadow’s first playable role in a mainline title since 2006.
Episode Shadow will launch for free alongside Sonic Forces on November 7. Reminder: Forces is launching for $39.99 and pre-ordering it will net you a few SEGA-themed costumes for your Avatar. The Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC are poised to join the resistance.
Personally, I’m not a fan of Shadow’s character and the portion of Green Hill Zone that we saw in the trailer looks sloppily designed, but it is nice to have another character on the roster. Plus, you know, it’s a free bonus, which is always appreciated. Now, let’s cross our fingers for an Episode Blaze.
