Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’ To Receive A Prequel Series On Peacock

The 2012 adult fantasy comedy film Ted directed by Seth MacFarlane, which got a sequel Ted 2 in 2015, will get a prequel television series for the NBC streaming service Peacock. MacFarlane will reprise his role as the title character and serve as an executive producer alongside Erica Huggins. It remains to be seen if the writers of the first two movies Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, who were heavily involved with the screenplay alongside MacFarlane will have any involvement in the upcoming series.

Ted focuses on a charming and well-meaning but very immature adult named John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), who is best friends with Ted (voiced by MacFarlane), a talking teddy bear who he wished to life as a child. When John’s girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) tires of John’s choosing to constantly be with Ted over her, he is eventually forced to make the choice of losing his best friend since childhood or the woman he loves.

The first Ted movie received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the humor, story and performances from Wahlberg and MacFarlane. Ted 2 received mixed to negative reviews from critics who panned the more crass humor, convoluted and repeated story elements and the absence of Lori, who is said to have divorced John prior to the events of the sequel for once again choosing Ted over her, which caused John’s character and the film to completely backslide.

The untitled Ted series will take place before the events of the first two films and center around the younger years of the foul-mouthed and marijuana-addicted talking teddy bear and his best friend. It is unclear if Wahlberg will return to play John or if another actor will portray the character.
