Orlando gunman Omar Mateen’s father, Seddique Mir Mateen, has posted numerous videos to his Facebook page that shed a light on his own beliefs in the aftermath of his son’s murderous rampage inside of a gay club in Florida.

Omar Mateen’s Father

Seddique Mir Mateen did not wait long to break his silence after it was revealed that his son was responsible for the senseless slaughter of 49 individuals in the early hours of Sunday morning. In his initial statements to the press, Seddique claimed that Omar’s attack had nothing to do with his Muslim faith, but rather with his intense homophobia.

“We were in downtown Miami, Bayside, people were playing music. And he saw two men kissing each other in front of his wife and kid, and he got very angry,” Seddique told NBC News Sunday. “They were kissing each other and touching each other, and he said: ‘Look at that. In front of my son, they are doing that.’ And then we were in the men’s bathroom, and men were kissing each other.”

He added, “This had nothing to do with religion.”

Incidentally, Seddique took to Facebook Monday morning with a video in which he himself condemns homosexuals, but distances himself from the actions his son took. “God will punish those involved in homosexuality,” Mateen said, according to CBS News. “It’s not an issue that humans show deal with.”

Seddique’s Facebook videos also indicate that he is a longtime ideological supporter of the Afghan Taliban, who hosts a program on an Afghan TV station called the Durand Jirga Show. Donning a military uniform, Seddique appears in the videos calling himself the leader of a “transitional revolutionary government of Afghanistan,” claiming to have his own intelligence agency and indicating plans to become president of Afghanistan.

“He thinks he runs a government in exile and will soon take the power in Kabul in a revolution,” according to CBS News’ Ahmad Mukhtar, who believes it’s possible that Seddique is suffering from delusions.
