Scott Weiland Cause Of Death: Stone Temple Pilots Singer Died Of Fatal Overdose

Scott Weiland, the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman, died of an accidental drug overdose.

Scott Weiland Cause Of Death

The coroner’s report states that Weiland, 48, died of “mixed drug toxicity,” according to the Star-Tribune. At the time of his death, Weiland had cocaine, alcohol and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) in his bloodstream. MDA, sometimes known as “sally” or “the love drug,” is chemically related to ecstasy, which also goes by MDMA or Molly.

In addition to the drugs and alcohol, Weiland also suffered from “other significant conditions,” including atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, asthma and a dependence on multiple substances. The coroner’s report found that Weiland’s death was accidental.

Weiland was found dead on the tour bus for his band Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts in Minnesota on Dec. 3. Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction broke the news on Twitter, and it was later confirmed on Weiland’s Facebook page. Tributes poured in for the beloved musician, who had openly battled with substance abuse throughout his career.

Following Weiland’s death, his ex-wife Mary Fosberg Weiland penned an essay with their children together – Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13. In the poignant letter, Mary criticized the culture that glamorizes the destruction of its rock stars, and mourned the loss of hope her children have suffered for their father’s recovery.

“December 3rd, 2015 is not the day Scott Weiland died. It is the official day the public will use to mourn him, and it was the last day he could be propped up in front of a microphone for the financial benefit or enjoyment of others,” Mary wrote

“Our hope for Scott has died, but there is still hope for others,” Mary concluded her letter. “Let’s choose to make this the first time we don’t glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don’t have to come with it.”
