Scarlett Johansson Addresses Woody Allen Molestation Accusations, Calls Dylan Farrow 'Irresponsible'

Scarlett Johansson addressed Dylan Farrow’s accusations of molestation by Woody Allen, criticizing her decision to name actresses that have worked with Allen in the open letter detailing the alleged abuse.

Johansson starred in three of Allen’s films – Match Point, Scoop and Vicky Christina Barcelona – from 2005-2008, and was heralded as Allen’s newest muse. In an interview with The Guardian, Johansson publicly addressed Farrow’s allegations, trying her best to stay removed from the controversy.

Johansson Calls Dylan Farrow 'Irresponsible'

However, Johansson did speak openly about her thoughts on Farrow’s open letter, published Feb. 1 in The New York Times, in which she directly confronted Allen collaborators Cate Blanchett, Louis CK, Alec Baldwin, Emma Stone, Diane Keaton and Johansson.

“What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?” Farrow wrote.

“I think it’s irresponsible to take a bunch of actors that will have a Google alert on and to suddenly throw their name into a situation that none of us could possibly knowingly comment on. That just feels irresponsible to me,” Johansson said.

When asked if she had an opinion on the huge wave of negative press lobbied towards Allen, Johansson said she was completely ignorant of the fall out from Farrow’s public accusations.

“I’m unaware that there’s been a backlash. I think he’ll continue to know what he knows about the situation, and I’m sure other people involved have their own experience with it. It’s not like this is somebody that’s been prosecuted and found guilty of something, and you can go, ‘I don’t support his lifestyle or whatever.’ I mean, it’s all guesswork,” Johnasson said.

When pressed again, Johansson brushed off the question, insisting that she had neither the knowledge nor the authority to say anything one way or the other. “I don’t know anything about it. It would be ridiculous for me to make any kind of assumption one way or the other.”

Cate Blanchett Responds To Woody Allen Controversy

Johansson is not the first actress named in Farrow’s open letter to address the accusations publicly. At the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February, Blanchett, who won an Oscar for her role in Allen’s Blue Jasmine, told reporters that she empathized with the entire Allen/Farrow family.

“I mean, it’s obviously been a long and painful situation for the family, and I hope they find some sort of resolution and peace,” Blanchett said.

Johansson is currently promoting her new film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, hitting theaters April 4.
