‘Saturday Night Live’ Recap: Lady Gaga Hosts, Pokes Fun At Her Wardrobe
Saturday Night Live featured Lady Gaga as both a musical guest and host this weekend, with the current queen of pop showing off both her undeniable vocal skills and surprising comedic chops.
Kim & Kanye Talk Show
One of the best skits of Saturday night featured Gaga as a member of Apple’s genius team, who is a guest of Kim Kardashian (Nasim Pedrad) and Kanye West’s (Jay Pharoah) talk show. Going full on meta, Gaga dissed people who donned outrageous outfits, claiming they might be “hiding something.” Meanwhile, Pedrad channeled the Kardashian nasal voice, and Pharoah once again proved he’s a master of mimicry as West.
“Worst Cover Songs Of All Time” skit featured a handful of the players imitating celebrities – Adele, Lil Wayne, Susan Boyle, etc – singing covers of songs they’re perfectly ill suited for. Lily Wayne (Pharoah) and Boyle (Kate McKinnon), for examle, sang Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan star in a blockbuster eulogy skit as former employees of the video rental chain. They mourn the loss of their jobs in a variety of strange ways, including a bath with DVD rentals. Eventually, they find themselves on a island with similarly displaced employees where Lady Gaga channels Marie Antoinette in a tent. In the end, it’s all a dream and they’re all working at Best Buy now.
Roze Zone
The stereotypical women's version of NFL’s Red Zone network the Roze Stone gets a commercial starring Aidy Bryant and Vanessa Bayer. Instead of showing football games where a team is closing in on the endzone, the Roze Network shows only the most scinallating clips from reality TV shows. “I don’t care about their backstories. I want to see women destroy other women,” says Bryant.
During her time on the musical stage, Lady Gaga performed “Gypsy” and her duet with R. Kelly “Do What You Want.”
