Sasha Obama, New High School Graduate, Turns 18

At only seven years old, Sasha Obama was the youngest person to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr. Today, years later, she celebrates her eighteenth birthday. The country met Sasha and Malia Obama when they were just kids, but both have grown in the public eye, and each of them are now following in their parent’s footsteps, working to help causes they care about.

Malia is a college student at Harvard, and took a gap year between her enrollment in college, but to say she stayed busy would be an understatement. She worked as intern for the U.S Embassy in Madrid, Spain, and around the same time, Sasha began working at a restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. That same summer both Malia and Sasha took a trip to Liberia with their mother to work on the Let Girls Learn Peace Initiative.

Sasha celebrated her senior prom at the Sidwell Friends School on Memorial Day weekend and gained praise over her sophisticated and stylish outfit choice: a simple, all black gown paired with silver jewelry. Photos of her from that night were shared online and one photo went viral on twitter when users pointed out what looks like a secret service agent standing in the background of one of the photos. Sasha’s parents and sister were there for photos before the big night and pictures of her and her date were shared as well.

Sasha plans to attend the University of Michigan after she graduates from Sidwell Friends later this month.
