Teen Mom alum Bristol Palin has revealed that she is in recovery from a scare with facial paralysis.

On Jan. 29, Palin shared an Instagram Story video, saying, “I woke up nine days ago with a weird little sensation in my face.”

“My mouth was pulling this way and it just felt a little off. So, I went and looked in the mirror. I’m like, ‘Wow, this is looking a little weird,'” she said.

“Couldn’t really blink my eye, definitely had no movement on the side of my face…so crazy…went to the doctor. They ran tests, they did a CT scan [and] they put me on steroids, put me on other medications,” Palin recounted. “Nothing came back with all the results. They think it’s just a case of Bell’s palsy maybe brought on by stress or lack of sleep.”

Palin, 34, speculated, “I’m not really sure. There’s nothing that I was super stressed out about, but I think it was brought on by stress.”

Bell’s palsy is a temporary paralysis or slackening of a person’s facial muscles. Cases of Bell’s palsy can be brought on by diabetes, Lyme disease, tumors, trauma, high blood pressure, infection, and many others. In most cases, only one side of the face is affected.

Palin went on, “I know I look crazy right now, but this has been such an improvement from what I was looking like…I’m finally starting to get some of the sensation back. It’s been a little painful the last two days, which is a [good] sign. It’s a good indication that it’s getting better. Praise the Lord!”

Palin, who is the oldest daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, added, “But the next time I look in the mirror, I pick myself apart where it’s like, ‘Oh, my nose is long. I want a nose job. I want to do this. I want to do that,’ I am going to remember this, and I am just going to be so thankful for a normal functioning face ’cause this has been wild.”

Multiple high-profile celebrities have revealed themselves to have been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, including George Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Tiffany Chen.
