Bullock, 51, revealed that Laila had been in foster care in Louisiana before she fostered the little girl herself, and how she was eventually able to formally adopt her in an interview with People magazine.
“When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” Bullock told People. “I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time,” she added, referring to Louis, who she adopted back in 2010.
According to Bullock, it was her young son who had encouraged her to adopt another child that would become a younger sibling to him.
“Louis spearheaded this whole journey,” the Oscar-winning actress revealed. Part of the journey involved making sure that Laila felt safe and comfortable within their family, which Bullock made a priority.
“I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” Bullock said. “My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding. That’s a family.”
