Roseanne Barr To Return To Stand-Up After Being Fired For Racist Tweet

Actress and comedian Roseanne Barr is set to return to stand-up comedy for the first time since her 2006 HBO special, Blonde and Bitchin’, in a new comedy special for Fox Nation.

Using the NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, Fox dropped a 15-second-long teaser for Barr’s upcoming special – Roseanne Barr: Cancel This! – which showed Barr stepping onstage and asking the audience “Has anybody else been fired recently?”

Taped at Houston’s Cullen Theatre, Cancel This! is set to debut on Fox’s streaming platform on February 13. The title and question posed in the teaser both refer to the short-lived 2018 revival of her hit ABC sitcom Roseanne (1988 – 1997), which was cancelled after Barr faced enormous backlash for making a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, who served as the senior adviser to President Barack Obama.

Following multiple public disputes, including ABC’s refusal to accept Barr’s apologies and pleas not to cancel the show and her feud with co-star Sara Gilbert on Twitter, Barr waived her rights to the show.

As a result, the network aired a spin-off, The Connors, in 2018, killing off Barr’s character through an opioid overdose and refocusing on other members of the family instead. Shortly after the first episode aired, Barr took to Twitter, posting “I ain’t dead, b——!” as well as a carefully-crafted statement addressing the newly-aired show.

While she had previously mentioned that she was still getting offers to return to TV despite her controversial remarks, Barr’s return to stand-up after nearly a 20-year hiatus has attracted much media attention. In addition to the comedy special, Fox Nation is set to release a documentary – titled Who Is Roseanne Barr? – which will detail the comedian’s life and career.
