The news of a new installment of the popular music game, Rock Band, has been a long time coming, with fans of the multi-player game clamoring for an update. And, while no release date has been set, soon fans will get to pre-order the new version.

According to Harmonix and Mad Catz, the new Rock Band will be compatible with over 2000 tracks and is said to focus on bringing the band experience to the game play.

“With Rock Band 4, we’re doubling down on the energy and excitement of playing music live with your friends. Focusing on the core experience that our fans have told us they love allows us to evolve established gameplay in meaningful ways that we can’t wait to share with everyone later this year,” said Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak.

For fans of the game who are worried that the new songs they have paid for and downloaded over the years will become void upon purchase of a new Rock Band 4, Product Manager Daniel Sussman assures that all music will be transferable.

“Since the beginning, we’ve called Rock Band a music platform. Players responded by downloading hundreds of their favorite tracks, and building a massive library of playable music. It’s important for us to respect those purchases and enable our fans to bring that content over to the Rock Band platform on the new generation consoles,” Sussman said.

Rock Band 4 will be playable on Microsoft, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4, and more details are scheduled to be revealed in May.
