Robin Thicke once again publicly apologized to his estranged wife Paula Patton at the 2014 BET Awards Sunday night.
Before performing “Forever Love” on the stage at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Thicke addressed Patton, simply saying, “I miss you and I’m sorry.” Behind him were white lights spelling out Paula’s name as he sang one of the many songs referring to his love for Patton off his latest album, which he named for her.
Thicke, 37, and Patton, 38, who’ve been together since their early teens, announced their separation back in February in a joint statement. "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the couple told People in a statement.
The separation announcement came on the heels of rumors that Thicke had been unfaithful to Patton. In the months that followed his controversial VMA performance of “Blurred Lines” with Miley Cyrus, he was pictured groping a fan at New York City’s 1Oak and dancing with a young woman at Paris’ Club 79.
Since the separation, Thicke has made countless public pleas for Patton to take him back. The two, who were married in 2005, have a four-year-old son together named Julian Fuego Thicke.
Amid speculation that Patton will indeed reconcile with Thicke, Patton admitted that they have a deep history with one another, but stopped short of being optimistic about their future as a couple.
"We've known each other since we were teenagers," Patton, 38, told Vanity Fair in an interview for its June issue. “All I can tell you is there's a deep love there — always was, and always will be."
