Rita Ora failed a lip sync attempt at the 2018 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday, and fans were quick to mock her on Twitter.

The Kosovar-born British pop singer — who will be 28 on Monday — was performing her song “Let You Love Me” and seemed to have a lip-sync misstep. Judging from some clips of Ora’s performance, however, it appeared that the track in her earpiece may have been out of sync.

After people started ripping Ora on Twitter, fellow musician John Legend rushed to defend her, explaining in his own tweet that the floats used for singers during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade “don’t have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance.” Ora thanked Legend for supporting her and reiterated his comment.

This, combined with the vast array of sounds from the crowd in New York and the strong winds like those that were blowing in the Big Apple on Thursday, all surely made it especially difficult to perform. The parade was broadcast on NBC Thursday morning.

In their own tweet, Macy’s apologized for the technical difficulties that led to the lip synching. The store noted that “these issues were out of the artist’s control.”
