Rihanna, 24, got emotional on Oprah Winfrey's new OWN show, Oprah's Next Chapter, on Sunday when she opened up about her romantic history with ex Chris Brown, 23, which ended in February of 2009 after Brown physically attacked her and sent her to the hospital — an incident for which Brown pleaded guilty and received a sentence of probation and community service.
Rihanna talked to Oprah about the incident in tears, admitting that she and Brown are still "very, very close friends. We built a trust again and that's it. We love each other and we probably always will … that's not something you can shut off, if you've ever been in love," she said.
Oprah listened while Rihanna talked about her feelings for Brown, visibly reacting when Rihanna said that she had been preoccupied by the fact that Brown needed help after the attack. "It's awkward because I still love him," Rihanna admitted. "My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face."
Around the same time that the show aired, Brown tweeted somber-looking photos of himself with no explanation of whether or not they were related to the interview.
