Ricky Schroder Helps Fund $2 Million Bond To Free Kenosha Shooter Kyle Rittenhouse

Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old said to have killed two people during a protest in Wisconsin, has been released from custody after actor and director Ricky Schroder posted his bond.

“Morning from Kyle & his Mom Wendy,” Schroder tweeted Sunday, alongside a photo of himself, Rittenhouse, and his mother. “In America we are ALL innocent until a jury of peers decides guilt or innocence, not the Mob or Press. When the facts are known, many of you will owe this young man an Apology. Move to PARLER everyone….leave Twitter. Jack Dorsey Sucks!”

Rittenhouse at first attended the August protest-turned-shooting to “take up arms and defend” Kenosha, according to a post he made on Facebook at the time. The night of the protest, he shot and killed protestors Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. In multiple videos from the scene, Rittenhouse is shown at first running away from angry protestors, then turning around and engaging in fights with several of them, firing shots that left one protestor injured and two dead. Rittenhouse was also recorded acknowledging that he killed one of the protestors, and that night he fled the state, only to turn himself in to Wisconsin police a day later.

The killings of Rosenbaum and Huber quickly became political. Among leftist circles, Rittenhouse was regarded as a murderer and terrorist, accusations against him going as far as deeming him a white supremacist. Among conservatives, however, Rittenhouse has been regarded as somewhat of a hero, exercising his right to bear arms during unrest. Now that Rittenhouse has been freed, at least until his December 3 hearing, controversy around him has intensified.

“There can be no unity with people who think Kyle Rittenhouse is a hero,” one Twitter user wrote.

“He’s definitely a hero in my eyes,” another user replied. “I am happy he removed that documented child rapist and woman abuser off the streets / #KyleRittenhouse / We don’t mourn those type of people over here..”

“I interviewed Kyle Rittenhouse face to face / Was 6 ft away from him during the first shooting / Have viewed all the additional videos / I believe he acted in self-defense / My outspoken support for him has not changed / & I will continue to speak out until the charges are dropped,” internet personality Elijah Schaffer tweeted.

“I want to live in a country where Colin Kaepernick is seen as a hero and Kyle Rittenhouse is seen as a terrorist,” stars George Takei, Morgan Freeman, LeVar Burton and other fans and celebrities tweeted in solidarity.

In his upcoming preliminary hearing, Rittenhouse will be facing six different charges, five of them felonies with a “use of a dangerous weapon” modifier that has the potential to increase his sentence up to five years. The charges include first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18 (the only misdemeanor).
