‘Rick And Morty’ Has Been Renewed For 70 Episodes – What Can We Expect?

On Thursday, Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland had some very important news about the show that they announced from Harmon’s shower:

Yes, Rick and Morty will continue to traverse the multiverse on Adult Swim forever and forever, or at least for 70 more episodes. This renewal will more than triple the current count of 31 episodes that have aired over the show’s first three seasons. There is no word yet whether these 70 episodes will all be part of one massive fourth season, or seven 10-episode seasons, or if “season” does not mean anything anymore when it comes to Rick and Morty. There is also no word on a return date.

So with all this uncertainty, that means it is time to speculate! Thus, here are some educated guesses of what we have to look forward to:

This batch of episodes will wrap up in late 2028.

I am guessing that the next new episode will air sometime later this year, so if we assume ten new episodes per year, then we should get through all 70 by 2024 or early 2025. But that would be a much faster production cycle than the first three seasons operated under. The stability granted by this huge renewal should speed things up a bit, but considering Harmon and Roiland’s perfectionism, it would be a bit of a surprise if they start working at anything resembling a clockwork pace.

Every main cast member from Community will guest voice (except Chevy Chase).

Joel McHale and Gillian Jacobs both appeared last season (McHale as Hemorrhage in “Rickmancing the Stone” and Jacobs as Supernova in “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender”), while Jim Rash chimed in as Glexo Slim Slom in Season 2’s “Big Trouble in Little Sanchez.” Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown and Danny Pudi all have plenty of voice acting and would surely slot in comfortably. Ken Jeong says yes to everything, so it is a wonder that he has not appeared already. And Donald Glover’s recent SNL appearance indicates that he is still willing and eager to get silly from time to time. As for Chevy, even if and he and Harmon can get over their past of on-set clashes, it is probably more likely that Harmon would opt instead for something like the cosmically ironic joke of McHale voicing a Chevy Chase-esque character.

Mr. Poopybutthole will appear in the background of all 70 episodes, Where’s Waldo?-style.

Ooooooooooooohhh wee!

The next “Rixty Minutes” sequels will be presented in some combination of reverse order, upside-down and at a frequency that only dogs can hear.

Snowball would approve.

Szechuan sauce will never be mentioned again.

It’s for the best, really.

If you have your own surefire speculations yourself, chime in and let us know!
