A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the New York City and New Jersey areas on Friday morning. The occurrence was a shock, considering the East Coast is not known for earthquakes, though fault lines run through the area. Officials have yet to confirm which fault line caused the quake.

Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) took the quake as a sign from God. The Georgia representative posted to X after the earthquake, urging Americans “to repent.”

“God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent,” Greene wrote. “Eartquakes and eclipses and many more things to come. I pray that our country listens.”

It is unclear who Greene specifically urged to repent or why. A total solar eclipse is set for March 8.

One user on X pointed out that Donald Trump‘s golf club is at the center of the earthquake.

Greene is not the first Republican to compare current issues to biblical events. In March, Trump compared his numerous criminal trials to the persecution of Jesus Christ.

Greene was also previously criticized for her conspiracy theory that “Jewish space lasers” were the cause of the California wildfires in 2018. When asked about this in March by British journalist Emily MaitlisGreene told her to “f— off.”
