Rep. Lauren Boebert Mocked For Calling For Ten Commandments In Classrooms After Public Groping Incident
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) advocated for morals in the nation and schools and for displaying the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms.
However, Boebert’s moralizing has been criticized, as her own ethical missteps have been scrutinized.
Boebert praised Louisiana’s controversial new law, signed by Gov. Jeff Landry (R-Louisiana), which mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. “This is something we need throughout our nation because we need morals back in our nation, back in our schools,” she declared in a recent appearance on Steve Bannon‘s War Room podcast.
Boebert asserted, “Listed in the Ten Commandments, thou shall not steal. Maybe the left and some of these politicians are having a meltdown over having that right there listed in our classrooms, thou shall not steal, because government hates competition. And they don’t want our children to realize that’s something you shouldn’t be doing.”
The congresswoman’s remarks drew mockery on the social media platform X as users pointed out the irony of her comments and labeled her a “hypocrite.” This backlash comes amid Boebert’s ethical controversies, such as when she faced backlash for a groping incident at a performance of Beetlejuice again at a GOP primary debate in her home state in June 2024.
Boebert holds the seat for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, which has only a narrow Republican advantage. In a close-fought election in 2022, Boebert emerged victorious against her Democratic challenger, Adam Frisch, by a margin of less than 600 votes.
Boebert is now running for the seat in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which is widely considered more solidly conservative. This district encompasses the state’s rural easternmost regions and some Denver suburbs, making it a more hospitable environment for Boebert’s hard-right views.
Bannon, Boebert’s co-host on the podcast, is scheduled to head to prison in the coming days for defying a subpoena related to the events of the Capitol riot. He also faces a separate trial for allegedly defrauding contributors to a fund to build a southern border wall.
