Controversial Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) found herself under fire for a groping incident at a performance of Beetlejuice again at a GOP primary debate in her home state on Friday. In September 2023, Boebert made headlines after the lawmaker behaved inappropriately at a performance of the musical in Denver.

Boebert was caught vaping, singing and recording on her cellphone during the performance. Her disruptive behavior caused the representative to be escorted out of the venue. Boebert was also seen groping her date inappropriately while seated. Employees had given Boebert several warnings to stop her behavior before the situation escalated.

Boebert briefly addressed the situation in a post on social media platform X, writing, “It’s true, I did thoroughly enjoy the AMAZING Beetlejuice at the Buell Threate, and I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud!”

The congresswoman eventually confessed to lying about the incident and apologized.

On Friday, primary debate moderator Kyle Clark brought up the incident again to Boebert. Boebert previously denied some of her behavior that night, including vaping and showing her middle finger to theater staff. Clark said his news station had surveillance footage of Boebert doing so. Boebert then defended herself.

“I certainly have owned up to my night out in Denver,” Boebert stated. “And, you know, I’ve gone on that public apology tour, and I’m grateful for the mercy and grace that has been shown. But I’m not going to continue to live life in shame and be beat up by this.”

Boebert also criticized Clark for obtaining footage of a “private moment.” Clark then questioned Boebert for “lying to voters” about her behavior that night and “the disrespect that you showed to service workers.” Boebert claimed the footage was “taken out of context.”

Boebert skipped the candidate’s Saturday debate.

In December, Boebert chose to run for reelection in a different district to increase her chances of winning. In 2022, Boebert won reelection in the 3rd District of Colorado with only 546 votes over Democrat opponent Adam Frisch.

Boebert also faces controversy for the actions of her 18-year-old son, Tyler Boebert. Tyler was charged with theft in February for vehicle trespassing and property theft. Tyler is also a teen father, making Boebert a grandmother at 37 years old.
