‘Real Housewives’ Star Leah McSweeney Files Lawsuit Against Andy Cohen & Bravo Alleging Toxic Workplace Culture

Leah McSweeney, a former star of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City, has taken legal action against producer Andy Cohen, Bravo and other entities, claiming to have been subject to a “rotted” workplace culture while she was on the show that perpetuated discrimination and harassment.

In a civil lawsuit filed in New York, McSweeney alleged that Cohen, Bravo, NBC, production company Shed Media and producers John Paparazzo, Lisa Shannon and Darren Ward subjected her to discriminatory treatment and retaliation based on her status as a woman with disabilities, which included alcohol use disorder and various mental health disorders, all to generate drama for the show.

McSweeney asserts that the toxic work environment encouraged employees to consume alcohol and retaliated against her when she tried to maintain sobriety. The lawsuit further claims that producers intentionally orchestrated situations to exacerbate McSweeney’s disabilities, solely to create sensationalized reality television.

McSweeney also alleges that Cohen has a “proclivity” for cocaine usage, both himself and with other Bravo personalities. She contends that he grants more favorable treatment and edits to the “Housewives” who engage in cocaine use.

A representative for Cohen has denied the allegations, with the statement that they are “completely false.” Bravo and Shed Media have not yet responded to requests for comment.

McSweeney took to Instagram after she filed the lawsuit and expressed her initial fear to speak out. She called attention to the disturbing nature of those at the top of the industry who revel in the misfortunes of women. She also expressed her admiration and respect for many of the Bravo talent she encountered, highlighting her positive experiences with them.

In recent months, other former Housewives have also brought legal action against Bravo and associated companies. Caroline Manzo filed a lawsuit last month that alleged sexual misconduct with Brandi Glanville, who was not named as a defendant in the case and denies any wrongdoing. Additionally, Glanville and her legal team accused Cohen of sexual harassment and called for his termination just last week.
