Bethenny Frankel, star Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City, has paid her respects to her late boyfriend Dennis Shields. Shields was pronounced dead at his Trump Tower apartment on Friday from an apparent overdose. On Monday, Frankel posted a picture on Instagram of Shields and her beloved dog, Cookie, who passed away last year. The photo shows Shields and Cookie resting in bed together with the caption, “Rest In Peace my sweet babies who gave me endless unconditional love.”

Frankel and Shields had known each other for almost 30 years, but did not begin dating until 2016, after they both separated from their previous spouses. The couple were on-again, off-again for the last two years with no confirmation of whether they were still dating at the time of Shields’ death. A friend of Frankel’s told People that Shields had proposed with an engagement ring in April, and while Frankel “didn’t say no,” she did not wear the ring, as the couple “had some things to work out first.” The friend added: “There were some hurdles to overcome before she could make that level of a commitment. She loved him. He’s her family and her best friend and her confidante. Her partner and her business partner.” Frankel’s friend believed that she would have married Shields.
