Rapper Sean Kingston is at the center of a criminal investigation that has led law enforcement to raid his South Florida mansion. The incident occurred on Thursday and resulted in the arrest of Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner.

According to a public information officer at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, detectives served arrest and search warrants at Kingston’s residence in Southwest Ranches as part of an investigation that began in Dania Beach. Working with the BSO’s Strategic Investigations Unit and Davie Police SWAT, authorities executed the raid and took Turner, 61, into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear whether there is an arrest warrant for Kingston himself. However, the musician addressed the raid on his Instagram Stories and assured his followers, “People love negative energy! I am good, and so is my mother! My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”

This is not the first time Kingston has found himself in legal trouble. In 2020, a warrant was issued for his arrest for grand theft after he allegedly failed to pay a jeweler for several pieces of jewelry. Kingston also faced legal action from two New York-based jewelers and a separate Florida jeweler for allegedly failing to pay for merchandise he acquired.

According to Broward County court records, Kingston is currently engaged in a legal battle with Ver Ver Entertainment, which sued him in February for allegedly failing to make payments on the sale and installation of a large television at his residence.

In a statement, J. Dennis Card Jr., an attorney for Ver Ver Entertainment, claimed that a Broward detective read the lawsuit and contacted him, which led to the raid on Kingston’s mansion.

The details around the fraud and theft charges against Turner remain unclear.

In 2011, Kingston suffered a near-fatally jet ski accident in Miami.
