DMX Arrested For Not Paying Child Support
DMX allegedly failed to pay his $10,000 a month in child support to his ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, and four children, which prompted his arrest.
The rapper was arrested in Westchester, N.Y., where he now lives. During a hearing on Tuesday, DMX spoke before the judge, addressing his life in the spotlight.
“It’s not like I can hide,” DMX said, regarding his live performance shows and public appearances.“All I have is my name and my reputation,” he explained, adding that rapping at shows is the “only way I can make a living.”
Yet, the rapper was cuffed and led out of the courtroom, expected to be released later that night.
In June, DMX was arrested at Radio City Music Hall on various warrants. The rapper had an outstanding bill of $400,000 in child support that he hadn’t paid, and pending warrants due to jumping bail, robbery and driving without a license.
In 2013, DMX was arrested for marijuana and a previous traffic violation, and in 2008 he plead guilty to counts of animal cruelty, and drug charges after police raided his home in Phoenix, Ariz.
In spite of his police troubles, on Monday, DMX posted videos to Instagram of him in the studio, working on new music. “Am I happy? Yes. Do I have everything I want? No. Do I let my happiness overshadow the fact that I don’t have everything I want? Yes,” he says in one video. He captioned the video with the word “Grateful.”
