Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, born Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez, claims his soon-to-be ex-wife, Mireddys Gonzales, illegally withdrew $100 million from his corporate bank accounts without his knowledge.
According to court documents, Gonzales took $80 million from his El Cartel Records account, where she served as CEO and another $20 million from his Los Cangris account. According to the Reggaeton hitmaker, company funds were stolen on Dec. 12 after he had already revoked the authority of Gonzales and her sister, Ayeicha Gonzales Castellanos, warning that they would be unable to carry out any transactions on behalf of the company.
Rodriguez claimed that he lacked information about all the income he generated. He asked the court to enforce the immediate removal of Gonzales and Gonzales Castellanos from further function or interference in the company as officers or administrators, including the delivery of information and documentation that they illegitimately withheld.
The Grammy winner claimed that the sisters improperly obtained “power over the operations” and “failed to render an accurate account of their actions, disregarded formalities and requirements of the corporate legislations.”
Rodriguez claimed Gonzales hired a third party to represent El Cartel in selling his music catalog to Concord. The third party allegedly did not provide copies of the contract documents and left him unaware of what was sold and what was not sold. He went on to call her $100 million withdrawal a “desperate attempt.”
The musician’s filing stated, “It now becomes evident why she wanted to keep him in the dark and deny him information about the withdrawals and cash movements that she and her sister made behind his back.”
In 2017, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi had the song of the year with “Despacito.”
