Randy Quaid, 60, announced Thursday that he and his wife, Evi, 47, have triumphed in their legal battle against the Canada Border Services Agency, which had filed inadmissibility proceedings against their joint attempt to emigrate to the north. As it turns out, Evi has a claim to citizenship because her father was a Canadian native, which would allow her to sponsor her husband as an immigrant.

The impetus for their move was a desire to escape “a monstrous ring of accountants, estate planners and lawyers,” says Quaid, speaking at a press conference shortly after his successful hearing. He went on to claim that the ring might even be trying to kill him. The reason? To gain control of his “royalties.”

What Quaid neglected to mention was that he and his wife have been charged with felony burglary charges and misdemeanor counts back in the U.S for allegedly vandalizing a property they once owned in Santa Barbara, California. Currently, the duo is wanted on $500,000 bench warrants.

Quaid is nevertheless optimistic, and finished the press conference by stating his continued interest in working as an actor – as long as it’s in Canada. Another bit of good news for the actor: Quaid received an award from the Vancouver Film Critics Circle this past Wednesday for the part he played in the dramatic comedy, Real Time.
