PS4 Announced By Sony, Reveals New Controllers But Not the Console
Sony officially unveiled their plans for the Playstation 4 in New York City on Wednesday, revealing everything there is to know about the next-gen edition – except the console itself and the price.
Despite missing some pivotal information, the two-hour event revealed a lot about the PS4, including its planned release for the 2013 holiday season. Sony also made clear at the event that the PS4 will offer more features than a standard gaming system, as it aspires to become a total package for gamers.
While Sony didn’t show the console, they did reveal the new Dualshock 4 controllers. They’ll feature a touchscreen in the center and color-coded sensory bars that will be able to determine depth and location, while also making it easier to distinguish between players. The controllers will also feature a “share” button, which will enable real-time sharing on social media, and uploading of livestreams of gameplay footage.
It was also announced on Tuesday that Blizzard will release "Diablo III for PS4," while "Killzone" and "Infamous" will likewise have new installments for the new PlayStation. However, there unfortunately won’t be backward capability with the new system. Old PS2 and PS3 games won’t be compatible with the PS4. The hope is that through increasing streaming capabilities gamers will eventually be able to purchase all their games from PlayStation’s library.
