Princess Diana’s Lookalike Nieces, Amelia & Eliza Spencer, Channel Their Aunt’s Post-Divorce ‘Revenge Dress’ Three Decades Later

Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer, stunned in matching gowns at the British Fashion Awards. 

The twins, 32, wore floor-length black velvet dresses as they recreated Diana’s 1994 “revenge dress” at the Royal Albert Hall in London. 

Both Amelia and Eliza showcased off-the-shoulder necklines with diamond chokers and earrings, which further channeled Diana’s iconic post-divorce look. 

The twins mimicked one another with their glam, opting for sleek buns paired with brown eyeshadow and a nude lip. 

Diana’s bold look is unforgettable because of the context in which she wore it—on June 29, 1994, the princess stepped out to a gala at London’s Serpentine Gallery, knowing all eyes would be on her.

As the royal was met with gasps as she exited her car, ITV aired an interview with her estranged husband, the then-Prince Charles. The prince admitted that he had been unfaithful during their marriage, saying that his marriage with Diana had “irretrievably broken down, us having both tried.”

In a 2021 interview, 26 years after their aunt’s horrific death, Amelia and Eliza spoke about the special bond they had with Diana as children. 

Eliza described her aunt as “incredibly warm, maternal and loving,” adding, “She always made an effort to connect with us as children and had a talent for reading children’s hearts.”

“As a child, I realized the enormity of the loss for my father and family,” she said. “It was only later that I came to understand the significance of the loss of her as a figure in the world.”
