Prince William Wades Into New York City’s Hudson River To Inspect Oysters

Prince William is busy fighting climate change this week making a trip across the pond during New York City’s Climate Week.

On Monday, William visited Governors Island to check on the Big Apple’s oysters, which are part of an initiative to restore the oyster reefs in New York Harbor called the Billion Oyster Project. While there, he put on a pair of waders, an orange life vest and long yellow gloves to ensure a closer look at the oysters.

William’s Monday visit was eventful as he also met with restauranteurs, students and volunteers of the Billion Oyster Project, who reportedly taught the British royal all about oysters.

Mollusks weren’t the only reason William made the visit to New York City, though, as his main reason for visiting was to announce the 15 finalists of the Earshot Prize awards. Out of the 15, five will be chosen to “repair and regenerate” damaged environments and will also be awarded approximately $1.2 million. The winners will be announced in Singapore on November 7.

William began The Earthshot Prize in 2020, which, according to their website, was made to “search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental changes.”

The last time William was in the U.S. was last December in Boston to attend the second Earthshot Prize awards show.

William isn’t the only royal to make trips. Last week, his younger brother, Prince Harry, went to Germany to attend the Invictus Games.
