Pete Davidson Misses ‘SNL’ Christmas Show, Celebrities Reach Out After Star Shares Instagram Post Suggesting Suicide

Pete Davidson shared a distressing post on Instagram on Saturday that appeared to suggest a potential suicidal thoughts, although it was later deleted along with the account itself.

The 25-year-old comedian from Saturday Night Live missed the sketch comedy show’s Christmas-themed last episode of 2018 over the weekend. Davidson only appeared twice in Saturday’s episode: in a pre-recorded skit mocking celebrity auditions for the upcoming Oscars, and to present musical guests Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson for their second song. Davidson played Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek in the Oscars host sketch.

“I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore,” Davidson wrote Saturday on Instagram. “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last. all i’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so.”

He added a heart emoji to his post.

According to CNN, New York police met with Davidson to perform a “wellness check,” although no specifics were given as to exactly when and where this was done. The comedian has opened up multiple times before about his mental health struggles, including his borderline personality disorder diagnosis.

Davidson has received multiple death threats via social media and in person since he broke up with pop star Ariana Grande in October. The pair were publicly together for roughly five months and even got engaged, although they eventually split after saying they had rushed into their relationship and that it was all “too much, too soon.”

Davidson also drew further outrage and scorn from fans after he mocked Texas Republican congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw in a “Weekend Update” segment on SNL. Crenshaw, a military veteran who lost his eye in combat, wears an eye patch and Davidson joked that he looked like “a hitman in a porno movie.”

In the following week’s episode, Davidson apologized on-air for his remarks and the show even invited Crenshaw on “Update” to mock Davidson in return.

Earlier this month, Grande asked fans online to “be gentler” with Davidson and stop bullying him so much.

On Dec. 3, Davidson wrote on Instagram: “I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference.”

“I just want you guys to know. No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset I even have to say this,” he added.

According to TMZ, Grande tried to rush over to NBC’s studios at 30 Rock in New York after Davidson posted his distressing message on Instagram, but Davidson refused to see his ex-fiancee. TMZ also claimed Davidson also received angry comments from fans online after he defended rapper Kanye West, another outspoken and controversial celebrity who is bipolar. Davidson had previously blasted West for his pro-President Donald Trump remarks after he appeared on SNL as a musical guest in September, so fans began calling Davidson a hypocrite.

Besides Grande, other celebrities who came to Davidson’s support after his latest Instagram post included Nicki Minaj, Kid Cudi, Jon Cryer and Jada Pinkett Smith.
